Rolls Royce Rally at Harewood House

Yesterday we set out to take the kids to the park and ended up at Harewood House, where we found the annual Rolls Royce rally. Annoyingly, I hadn’t bothered to pack my camera so I was pretty gutted not to be able to take any pictures, so the images here are via .

There were of course some pretty nice cars on show but the real spectacle was the owners, who turned out in force to picnic in fabulously decadent style. Most were happy just to sit in deckchairs behind their cars sipping tea from elaborate china picnic sets, or swilling champagne with a cigar or two.

There was a fantastic brass band and some craft and memorabilia stalls, but the highlight was the Rolls Royce aeroplane engine mounted on a trailer as an exhibition piece. They fired it up at intervals during the day and you could hear it miles away.

We wandered home for dinner after walking over to the walled garden to let the boys burn off some steam.
