Firewire DV Oddness

Filed under: General — James Holden @ 2:27 pm

Happy Christmas everyone!

This morning while trying to grab some video from the camcorder over Firewire, I was getting the ‘Error: No DV’ message from dvgrab. It turns out that removing the eth1394 module fixed the problem - strange but true, so I thought I’d stick it here for future reference.

  1. Thanks this made my capture work. It wasn’t working I was getting same error “Error: no DV”.

  2. I’m getting very frustrated! I had my Sharpe VL-SD20 working fine over firewire sometime ago. I hadn’t tried capturing video in about a year - since then I went to OpenSuSe. Tonight, installed Kino (what I used to use) and had mega problems.

At one point this evening, I did capture some video using dvgrab, but now all I’m getting is that same error message, “Error: No DV.” Removing the eth1394 module did not work for me either.

  3. I owe you a beer or something. After trying four over an hour to capture DV from my Debian box, I had almost given up.

    modprobe -r eth1394

    fixed everything. Thanks!
